Soul Circle Radio

16 Mar

I had a wonderful opportunity to join my friend DJ MZA (Jazzmoov/Bridges/DP Sound) and Ebo (Balance and the Traveling Sounds) over at Soul Circle Radio last Saturday with special guest DJ set by Shafiq Husayn. Artist Mark Luna did a live painting during the show as well, enjoy the photos and check out their website. www.soulcircleradio.com

You can also listen to archives of the show on their soundcloud website HERE.

Soul Circle Radio is Saturday noon – 2pm

Finally got to develop some rolls of film. Grainier than I had expected but I like that look on occasion. Hope you enjoy them.

MOCA Exhibit

9 May

Just a few shots from the MOCA exhibit “TRANSMISSION LA” curated by Mike D. Some interested expression and talented artists involved here. An interactive Video Installations by Ben Jones and John Pham that I’ve never seen the likes of, as well as my  favorite exhibit by Sage Vaughn. This was my first visit to MOCA (yes, I missed the Art in the Streets exhibit) and it was blessed by the presence of Aloe Blacc and his band performing live. One beautiful voice he has to go along with inspiring lyrics. Great show and night all the way around.

Flock shop turns 4

9 Oct

I’ve seen my fair amount of boutique’s open and close like a revolving door over the years. Here one minute, gone the next. You might argue that economy is to blame. In my opinion, it’s the quality of what they carry that holds the business up. One a kind items that don’t just appeal to the unique at heart but to anyone who enjoys a bit of fun. Of course being active in the community doesn’t hurt.

Flock Shop in Chinatown has hit their 4 year mark, and with every good reason you can think of. I attended their anniversary gathering hoping to find something, and of course I couldn’t make up my mind. Everything in the store is by independent artists, not just in california but across the U.S. From jewelry to artwork, sunglasses to wallets, accessories for both men and women lines the walls from end to end. Prices for everyone and an atmosphere as welcoming as walking into your own home.

While at the shop, I came up on 3 prints by an artist named Joey Chou. Even though these are prints, the color is just as bold as if real watercolor. Printed on a heavy cardstock like paper. I’m in love with the concept and imagery he chose for this three some. Check him out at www.joeyart.com

Another item I grabbed was a slim pocket card holder by Quiet Doing. They have custom designs such as Ipod, sunglass and checkbook cases.  I’ve been wanting something from Quiet Doing for a while but just never got around to doing so. I’m happy with this one for sure. www.quietdoing.com

Lastly… and my FAVORITE thing of all is this bracelet by Nous Savons. So simple, and delicate. Generally I don’t wear small pieces, I like big earrings, bracelets and long necklaces. I’ve fallen in love with this piece though and haven’t taken it off since I got it. Nous Savons Website HERE

Bottom line… if you enjoy handcrafted, one of a kind things or even just an incredible art show every now and then, Flock Shop is a great resource for you. Congratulate them on their 4 years of business and treat yourself to something original.
